How do you make a submittal for construction?

It was part of job description and I am not exactly sure how it gets done and how difficult/tedious it is? Can someone walk me through this? I know it includes shop drawings but do I have to draw them or does an auto-CAD person do that?

The contract that your employer has with the client will spell out what is required in the submittal. It might be catalog cut sheets (pages from a catalog) that show the specifications of the material you are proposing to supply, it might be actual samples (say a floor tile or a paint chip), it might be calculations, it might be manufacturer’s certification (a statement from the manufacturer), it could be shop drawings (showing the dimensions and design of the product, often designed by an engineer and drafted in CAD by a drafter), or it might be as-built drawings (either a construction print set marked in red with as-built changes, or an electronic version of the same).

In all cases, your task is to create or obtain the required information or sample, package it up, attach a cover letter with information required by the client (e.g., contact number, job name and number, submittal number, date, etc), and mail or deliver it to the client.

The Easy Way To Create An Auto-Responder

Auto-responder emails are the automatic emails that you receive when someone is “out of the office” or on auto reply. It is the same as getting an automatic message on voicemail – it is meant to tell the person requesting information, “no, I’m not in, but I did get your request. I’ll be back in contact with you soon,” but the messages are usually not that eloquent.

When would you want to use an auto-responders? If you have a website with people who are continually asking routine questions, or if you are interested in screening resumes for a job, and just want to contact the most qualified applicants, they are a handy way to answer, but not personally answer a person sending a general email to you. If you go on vacation, are at a conference or in training and unavailable, this is an appropriate email to send in the business situation. It is also important to put in a short message on who to contact as a substitute, or who to email for information instead, to allow business to go on in your absence as smoothly as possible.

Remember, auto-responders are meant to be a shorter version answer to a general question, often without the respondent having seen the question specifically first. They should be short, give information on who to email for answers and should explain when you will be available next. For example in the office scenario, an appropriate one to use while you will be away from your office would be:  “Thank you for your email. I am out of the office until x date. I will review and answer all emails when I return at that time.” An inappropriate response would be: “I know you are emailing me, but I can’t read any of them right now. Call Jenn for accounting, but if she is out, call Lizbeth before 4:00pm.”

Auto-responders can also be used for customers who are making general inquiries to your website. In that case, they can direct them to the answers they are looking for, or to the customer service support that they need. It can also be used as an advertising tool, but a word of caution here because of spam issues.

The way to set up your auto-responder is to contact your web host. There is usually a procedure that allows initiating auto-responder on the control panel of the web host. This may also include the ability to schedule responses and to be able to program that different messages be sent. There are many internet companies that provide this service for reasonable fees or even for free. Many offer personalized messages and an unlimited number of messages to many recipients.

Many people responding to your initial email will not appreciate getting an auto-response for a reply. Imagine that you are trying to fill a job opening, and are not available to receive the responses from the candidates who respond to your advertisement. They will not want to get an auto-response from you, no matter how well intended, if they were expecting you to take the time to answer your initial requests for resumes or descriptions of qualifications. So, when sending auto-responses, consider what it would be like to get your own auto-response back after an email sent to someone in earnest. Would you want to be the person on the other end of your own auto-responder?

What would be my job title if I work from home creating spreadsheets?

I work for this guy who sells on eBay. He sells thousands upon thousands of auto parts, and I make spreadsheets that contain the titles and descriptions for each part. I was just wondering what my job title would be?

Call yourself a “Programmer” if you are able to ceate more value-added data for any spreadsheet/s at customers’ demand – and of course also be able to rectify errors as and whenever ir arises. Otherwise you are probably a data entry processor.
